On the 8th June teams from Harris and Bilton took part in a team based athletics competition at Ken Marriott Athletics Track. Teams of 4 - 6 children took part in four events, 100m, 800m, long jump and javelin with the top four scores counting towards the team total.

Daniel Caines, a former world indoor 400m champion came to support the event and helped the sports leaders from Harris School time keep the track events. This was a great opportunity for children to take part in athletics who may not have competed before. Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club supported the event with officials which helped the event to run well. The gallery will be updated soon so keep a look out for lots of pictures from the event.

Year 7 and Year 8 Sportshall Athletics County Final

Year 7 - Lawrence Sheriff Boys are County Champions and Ashlawn Girls Finish 3rd

CONGRATULATIONS

The year 7 and year 8 girls from Ashlawn and the year 7 and year 8 boys from Lawrence Sheriff competed in the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sportshall Athletics Final held at Coventry Sports Centre on the 30th March. They competed against teams from Coventry, Solihull, North Warwickshire, Central Warwickshire and South Warwickshire to see who would become county champions. The competition was fantastic with 8 teams competing in the year 7 event and 6 teams in the year 8 event. Boys and girls results were calculated separately and Eastern Warwickshire were very successful having County champions in each age group and finishing in the top 3 in both events. With next years event hopefully leading to a regional final, lets hope more success comes our way.

Table Tennis League

Congratulations to Lawrence Sheriff U13 and U16 teams who won the Eastern Warwickshire Schools Table Tennis Leagues in their respective age groups. Many thanks to Don and Adrian from Rugby Table Tennis club who helped to run the league. This year teams from Bilton, Ashlawn and Lawrence Sheriff participated in the league in both age groups. Hopefully next year there will be more teams taking part so there is an opportunity for more regular competition in this sport.

U15 and U16 Warwickshire Schools Basketball Cup

Schools from Warwickshire competed for the chance to be crowned Warwickshire Schools Basketball Champions on the 5th March at Stratford Leisure Centre. Teams for Lawrence Sheriff and Ashlawn competed against schools from Stratford High, Shipston and Kineton. The standard was impressive and very competitive in both age groups. Teams from Eastern Warwickshire battled hard in their matches and relished the opportunity to compete against teams form other areas.

The competition proved successfull and hopefully all teams will be back to compete for their chance to be Warwickshire Schools Basketball Cup Champions next year. Well done to all who took part and thank you to the development team at Stratford District Council for their help with the event.

U13 Basketball Cup

Avon Valley, Ashlawn, Lawrence Sheriff and Bilton U13 basketball teams all took part in the qualifying round for the U13 Warwickshire Schools Cup at Avon Valley School on the 4th March. The top two schools would qualify for the County final. The results were very close with 3 schools finishing on 5 points. Lawrence Sheriff were the champions winning all their matches with Bilton in second place on number of points scored.

Sportshall Athletics

Year 5/6 County Final

On the 27th April, Paddox Primary School represented Eastern Warwickshire in the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sportshall County Final. The team produced an excellent performance to finish second narrowly missing out to ST Gregory's from South Warwickshire. Congratulations to all the children who took part they all did themselves proud.

Year 5/6 Partnership Final

On the 24th February, 6 teams took part in the Eastern Warwickshire School Sport Partnership Sportshall Final at Ken Marriot Leisure Centre. Excited anticipation awaited all 6 teams to determine who would progress to the County final on the 27th April. There were some excellent individual performances with Imogen from Paddox primary achieving 1.80m in the standing long jump, Aniela from Eastlands scoring 47 in the vertical jump and Sam from Henry Hinde getting a distance of 19m in the javelin. After a hard fought competition Paddox came away as champions and will represent Eastern Warwickshire at the County final. Well done!

Well done to everyone who took part. It was fantastic to see so much support and encouragement for each other.

Year 5/6 Primary Heats

All the Eastern Warwickshire Sportshall heats took place over 2 days of competition on the 4th and 11th February and fortunately didn't get snowed off! The primary schools competed in three different heats to determine who would qualify for the Partnership final which was held at the Ken Marriot Leisure Centre on the 24th February. Teams of 30 children competed in events such as standing long jump, obstacle relay, vertical jump, chest push, 6 lap parlauf and the 4 x 1 lap relay. It was fantastic to see so much support and encouragement for team mates and other teams during the events and if the amount of noise was anything to go by I think everyone had fun!

Congratulations to Bilton Junior, Binley Woods, Dunchurch Junior, Eastlands, Henry Hinde Junior and Paddox who have all qualified for the Eastern Warwickshire School Sport Partnership final after finishing in the top two in their heats. The winners of the Partnership final will represent Eastern Warwickshire in the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire county final on the 27th April!

Year 7 and 8 Secondary Partnership Finals

Ashlawn, Avon Valley, Harris and Lawrence Sheriff commenced battle to determine which teams would represent Eastern Warwickshire at the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Final in March. This is a new event for 2009 and its success can be built on for future years. Most schools hadn't used the Sportshall equipment before and seeing it in action for the first time was a great learning experience. Teams of 8 took part in various events such as shot putt, 4 lap race, speed bounce, 8 lap parlauf and the 4 x 2 lap relay.

Congratulations to Ashlawn girls and Lawrence Sheriff boys who in both age groups have progressed to the county final to be held at Coventry Sports Centre on the 30th March.
