This term schools have been focussing on Basketball in year 5 in preparation for our cluster basketball festival on Thursday 11th Feb at Lawrence Sheriff School. This event is being run by Year 9 Sports Leaders from Lawrence Sheriff School.
After Half term we will be holding our first ever infant agility festival in assocation with Sports Hall Athletics. This event will be on Thursday 25th Feb at Lawrence Sheriff School and again our sports leaders will be assisting with this. All cluster schools have had the teachers Infant Agility Training after school and as a result have all received a large amount of kit which can be used in lessons and during extra curricular activities.
Several schools have been reaping the benefits of the community sports coach programme whereby the partnership funds and provides qualified coaches to run curricular and extra curricular sessions in schools in activities ranging from Tag Rugby to athletics. These coaches are able to run sessions before school, during lessons, at lunch and after school as part of our commitment to helping all pupils from years 1 to 13 take part in 5 hours of physical acitivity per week both at school and within the community.
Lawrence Sheriff School Activities
Sports Leadership
On Monday 8th Feb we are holding some sports hall athletics leadership training for our year 8 and 9 students. We should have 16+ students taking part. These students will then assist with the infant agility festival on Thursday 25th Feb.
After half term Lawrence Sheriff pupils will be helping to deliver football training sessions to year 5 and 6 pupils at Eastlands Primary School. These sessions will be on a Thursday from 3-30 to 4-30 throughout Feb and March. For several students this will be their first experience of leading younger pupils in sports activities.
Over the coming months its hoped that we will be able to get into our other cluster schools to help develop PE and school sport.
Other Activities
Hockey is continuing to grow here at Sheriff and we have now expanded our curriculum to incorporate hockey during curriculum time in years 7 and 8. We are also in the process of ordering team playing kit so that all of our teams look smart and professional. After half term we will hopefully also be running after school sessions for students in years 7 and 8 down at the Hartfield astro.
The cricket season is nearly upon us and so here at Sheriff we have started in preparation for a busy and exciting season. The indoor cricket matches have started in years 7, 8, 10 and 13. Hopefully we will be able to repeat the success from last year with the year 8's reaching the final. Look out for more cricket sessions coming soon.
Sports Council
LSS sports council has been up and running now for a term and a half and we have a wide range of students who are council members from year 8 to 12. The sports council will be taking on the role of helping plan our Sports Presentation night in July as well as the charity 2 Ball Basketball Comp to raise money for a worthwhile charity.
